  2. INTRODUCTION TO PLANNING ( EAGD 3304 ) Course overview : This course provides an overview of basic theories, principles and skills involved in planning the physical environment. Its main objective is to provide students with a basic understanding of physical planning, its concepts, tools and logic, and to provide them with the fundamental communication skills and steps to prepare physical plans. Planning levels: national, regional, local, detailed and sectoral planning. Socio-economic aspects affecting the planning of the physical environment . The course is partly theoretical and partly taught in a studio format in which the students learn by undertaking real or applied problems.

Week 3 Planning Levels : National Planning – Sector Planning Week 4 Regional Planning Week 5 City Planning Week 6 Detailed Planning Midterm Exam Week 7 Urban Design and Urban Renewal Week 8 Planning management, legal and administrative parameters. Week 9 Planning in the Arabic Word and in Palestine Week 10 Project Presentation Review Week 11 Final Exam

  5. INTRODUCTION TO PLANNING ( EAGD 3304 ) • Grading system :   • - Assignments 15 % • - Participation 15 % • - Midterm 25 % • - Final 45 % ( 35 v. + 10 th. ) • Total 100 %

INTRODUCTION TO PLANNING ( EAGD 3304 ) • Project : Each group of students has to choose a planning sector or level case study and analyze it in terms of planning aspects, determinates and output . The group shall prepare and present a report and maps to explain their ideas . The following case studies could be considered : • - The national plan – Palestine. • - The regional plan – Gaza Strip. • - The regional plan – West bank. • - The city physical plan : Gaza • - The city physical plan : Khan Younis • - The city physical plan : Fukhary • - Detailed Plan ( residential neighborhood ) • - Detailed plan ( industrial neighborhood ) • - Sector planning ( road and transportation – agriculture - ….etc ) • - The separation wall in the West Bank . • - Other topics considered by the students could be accepted.
