Part I: What is Audacity? • Audacity is a free software used for audio recording and editing which can be used on Mac or Windows computers. • Audacity can record live audio. • Audio files recorded can be manipulated: Changes to the pitch, or volume of recording. • The audio file can also be copied, cut, deleted, and duplicated. • The audio file can be faded in and out
Audacity Recording Steps • Download and install the current version of audacity software – 1.2.6 version on your Mac or Window PC. • Check the preferences dialog box to set the audio I/O – input and output for recording and playback - Stereo. • For quality sound, select 44,100 Hz sample rate. • File formats to 16bit PCM. Clicking the MP3 library will indicate that audacity does not export files directly but uses LAME to export Wav or AIFF files. • Download audacity LAME MP3 Encoder to enable audacity to export MP3 Files.
