Nationalist Diplomacy • Seminole Indians continued to attack Southerners. • Andrew Jackson destroyed several Seminole villages and then removed the Spanish governor of Florida from power. • In 1819, Spain ceded all of Florida to the U.S. in the Adams-Onis Treaty.
The Monroe Doctrine • Declared that Europe should stay out of the Western Hemisphere. • U.S. would stay out of European affairs. • U.S. would use force if necessary to implement this. • Bluff b/c U.S. doesn’t really have the army needed to do this.

Classwork • 1st- You will color a map of the Missouri Compromise. • 2nd- You will use the internet to research the effect of the Missouri Compromise. • 3rd- You will read arguments written by congressmen for and against slavery. • 4th- You will decide if the expansion of slavery is beneficial for America or if slavery should be banned.
