2. What Causes Accidents? • Lack of knowledge or skills • Environmental hazards • Poor safety attitudes • Unsafe behavior

3. Lack of Knowledge and Skills • Those with little training make 40% of the on job accidents • Workers should learn as much as possible about the tools they are operating to avoid accidents. • You need to be aware of what you can and cannot do.

4. Hazards on the Road • These are the leading cause of accidental death among teens • You must remember to be careful and to have good driving skills.

5. Environmental Hazards • These are hazards that you face such unsafe conditions in the workplace. • You have to be careful because these types of hazards make these work environment very dangerous. • Examples include machinery, dangerous equipment, electric and other hazards.

6. Hazards in Dangerous Work • Remember always that if you are involved in dangerous work be safety-conscious. • First know how dangerous your job is. • Secondly learn about ergonomics which is a why to prevent repetitive motion injuries.

7. Hazards in the Office • You also need to watch out for unsafe conditions if you work in a office also. • You may fill safe because you are simply in a office and may forget to follow simple safety step that will get you hurt so it is best to be careful

8. Poor Safety Attitudes • Not taking the right attitude toward safety can put you and others in danger. • Each and every worker needs to “think safety”. • The rules are developed and are there for a reason to protect you.

9. Unsafe Behavior • There are a range of unsafe behaviors that can occur at work such as Recklessness, Bad Temper, Lack of consideration and Disobedience. • Unsafe behavior is a threat to you and to everyone around you so it best not to practice it.

Cost of Accidents • The cost to you may the lost of very important things such as your health safety and your job or even a permanent job related injury • The cost to the employer is lost of an employee and lost man hours of training and workers compensation. • It costs the economy Billions to pay out to workers nation wide that need payment.

11. Preventing Accidents • Stay healthy • Use Machine and Tools Properly • Wear Protective Clothing and use protective safety equipment. • Follow safety precautions

12. What to Do When an Accident Occurs • Call for Help-as soon as it is safe to do so. • Provide First Aid-try to give basic first aid if you have the training • Follow Universal Precautions-Following step to prevent the spread of infection.

13. OSHA • This is one way the government helps to protect you on the job. • It was an Act passed buy congress in the 1970s to make all working conditions more safe.

14. EPA • It is the way that the government protects the environment on your job. • The EPA stands for the Environmental Protection Agency. • It works to reduce these kinds of hazards on the job site.

15. CDC • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention • It promote public policy toward your health that will keep you healthy.
