Apprenticeships – the benefits For Young People • Over 9 out of 10 apprentices are in work or education on completing their Apprenticeship (compares favourably with the national unemployment rate) • 76% of apprentices believe that without their Apprenticeship they wouldn’t be earning their current salary • A great route to further education: 60% of apprentices who completed an Advanced Apprenticeship showed an interest in pursuing a degree level equivalent course • 89% would recommend an Apprenticeship to others Research: BMG, January 2009

Apprenticeships – the benefits For Employers • 77% of employers believe apprenticeships make them more competitive • 76% say apprenticeships provide higher overall productivity • 80% feel that apprenticeships reduce staff turnover • 83% of employers rely on their apprenticeships programme to provide the skilled workers that they need for the future • 88% believe that apprenticeships lead to a more motivated and satisfied workforce Research: Populus, February 2009

  5. Apprenticeships – in partnership CONEL & London Borough of Haringey CONEL has developed programmes that are: • innovative and customised • tailored to the specific needs of local government CONEL and LB Haringey are currently working together to develop further pathways

  6. Apprenticeships – in partnership CONEL & Homes for Haringey CONEL: • provides support for recruitment of apprentices • administers assessment process and supports interview panel • delivers apprenticeship training in plumbing, carpentry and painting and decorating

Apprenticeships – The NAS = The National Apprenticeship Service Launched April 2009 Will reinforce the Government’s commitment to ensuring that “every suitably qualified young person has the right to an Apprenticeship by 2013” Focus: “to make it as easy as possible for employers to take on apprentices, streamlining the application process, and offering support and advice at every step for both the employer and learner”
