What is it? • It is an octopus. • It is an invertebrate. This means that it does not have a backbone.
What does it look like? • An octopus has eight arms called tentacles. • They have a round shaped head. • Octopuses have three hearts and one huge brain.
Where does it live? • Octopuses live in the sea. • They are bottom dwellers. • Octopuses may live in holes or crevices of rocks.
What does it eat? • The octopus is a predator. It hunts at night. Its favourite food are crabs, mollusks and crayfish.
How does it defend itself? • Camouflage: The octopus can change the colour of it’s skin to blend in to the rock or sand.
How does it defend itself? • Ink: Octopuses shoot ink into the water. The ink forms a cloud that hides the octopus.
How does it defend itself? • Poison: Some octopuses are poisonous. They eject venom into their attackers. Warning! Some octopuses sting humans.
Octopus for dinner? • People all over the world eat octopus. I have tried it and it is delicious!
