Learn about place value, rounding, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and BIDMAS (Order of Operations) with whole numbers. Practice writing numbers in words and vice versa, rounding to the nearest 10, 100, and 1000, adding and subtracting without a calculator, multiplying and dividing by 10, 100, and 1000, and using BIDMAS to solve mixed sums.

Whole Numbers Topic • Place Value • Write numbers in words and vice versa • Rounding to the nearest 10,100 • Addition & Subtraction (including mixed) • Multiplying by 10,100 and 1000 • Short & Long Multiplication • Dividing by 10,100 and 1000 • Short & Long Division • BIDMAS
Place Value Learning objective: Can I identify the place value of the underlined digit?
PLACE VALUE • 1 265 • 2 145 = tens = hundreds
Numbers in words & vice versa Learning objective: Can I write a number in words and vice versa?
PLACE VALUE 1 265 2. Thirty five thousand, two hundred and forty = one thousand, two hundred and sixty five = 35, 240
Rounding to the nearest 10,100 Learning objective: Can I round numbers to the nearest 10,100 and 1000?
Nearest 10,100 25 to the nearest 10 582 to the nearest 100 = 30 = 600
Addition Learning objective: Can I add numbers without using a calculator?
Adding • 57 + 35 2. 365 + 478 = 92 = 843
Subtraction Learning objective: Can I subtract numbers without using a calculator?
Try these: • 52 – 25 2. 124 - 89 = 27 = 35
Multiply & Divide by 10,100 & 1000 Learning objective: Can I multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000?
Multiply, Divide by 10,100 & 1000 • 23 × 10 • 256 ÷ 100 • 24 ÷ 1000 = 230 = 2.56 = 0.024
Multiplication Learning objective: Can I multiply numbers without using a calculator?
SHORT MULTIPLICATION 64 × 9 = 576
LONG MULTIPLICATION 74 × 39 = 2886
Division Learning objective: Can I divide numbers without using a calculator?
The “bus stop” method You do need to know your tables! The most common method is called “the bus stop”, because it looks like the numbers are waiting in a bus stop. The divisor goes outside the “bus stop”. You can also add multiples of your divisor, but this will take you longer!
Calculate these, without a calculator! • 168 ÷ 7 • 223 ÷ 6 • 384 ÷ 12 • 954 ÷ 17 = 24 = 37 r 1 = 32 = 56 r 2
More on LONG DIVISION • 684 ÷ 19 • 435 ÷ 25 = 36 = 17 = 17 r 10 = 17.4
BIDMAS Learning objective: Can I use BIDMAS?
Mixed Sums & BIDMAS • 265 – 25 + 121 - 12 • 350 – 400 + 75 – 23 • 2 + 3 x 4 • 25 ÷ 5 + (4 - 3) = 349 = 2 = 14 = 6
