BACKGROUND • 2005 Hurricane Katrina – 800,000+ Registrants • 2005 Total – 2.7 million people registered for assistance • Since Hurricane Katrina – over 200 presidentially • declared national disasters These events caused injury and death, destroyed homes and businesses, and disrupted the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across the nation.

Presidential Executive Order 13411: Improving Assistance for Disaster Victims August 29, 2006 • Issued in response to problems, real and perceived resulting from the Katrina response • Requires federal agencies to: • 1. Simplify the process for obtaining • disaster assistance • Eliminate problems caused by • multiple federal programs

DisasterAssistance.gov Is a result of the Executive Order • Launched December 31, 2008 • Provides direct access to client information • Applicant information is secure • Website consolidates federal recovery • information in one place • Will include available assistance at all levels: • - Federal - Regional • - State - Local • Scheduled to be completed by 2014

DisasterAssistance.govAnd the Case Manager And the Case Manager • Case Managers may need to assist a client to register and obtain an Integrated Security Access Account (ISAACC). • Case managers can review client data with the client to insure best data is reported and that it is accurate and current. • Case Managers can determine potential DOB conditions. • Enables case managers to aid their clients by identifying deficiencies in client data such as: • Lack insurance settlement letter submission • Appeal letters submitted • Other FEMA and SBA correspondence requirements
