how to get CCNA ? • A) Networking Academy • - (1) network academy student. 4 semester • - each semester 9 weeks (min), 18 weeks (max) • -(2) via Instructor Training. 22 days • B) Boot Camp • - 5 days -RM5000/= per person • - on the 5th day, a similar CCNA trial exam is given • - 99.7% passing rate • C) Self study • - 1 yr working experience in networking area • - some dealing with Cisco product (configuration etc) • - buy some Cisco Press book and study
Difference between Boot Camp & Network Academy? • What do U want ? • Paper or knowledge !!!!! • Ask yourself • 22 days training compress to 5 day • what kind of quality R U talking about • Student concern :- duration of the course • Boss concern :- 22 day $$salary versus 5 day $$salary • Boot Camp don’t have Multimedia Course • Don’t have so many Exams.
how to get CCAI ? • (1) via Instructor Training. 22 days • - sit for CCNA exam (Prometric or VUE) & pass.!!! • (2) via Fast Track • - already have CCNA • - attend 3 days Orientation and 3 day Fast Track (skill base exam). If fail then go for 22 days training • teach for 1 semester at least • must sit for CCNA exam (every 3 years) to maintain your CCAI
Other certifications (CCAI/CCNA) issues • Transferable between institution running network academy program • no benefit if U leave the networking academy • CCNA exam pay to Prometric • Last recall is about US$150/- • 50% discount is given if score > 70% on all four semester final on 1st attempt. • Who is going to Pay ???? • Cost recovery Model
Me and Safi (Regional Academy Instructor) • Oct 7 to Oct 16 :- Sem 3 & 4 training in NTU Singapore • - Some of you got to take over during our absence • Sit for CCNA exam (Nov) • teach CCNA student 1st batch 2nd semester • Teach another batch of instructors in Melaka • Sem 2, 3 & 4 training can only be done with Cisco equipment (not arrive yet) • Target 31 Dec 2002, finish all training for U guys/gals • We can only be trained by CATC (Cisco Academy Training Center) instructors. • Only me & Safi are allow to train LA (Local Academy) Instructors (you guys) • LA instructors can only teach student
My Hope (expectation) on You • Teach MMU student - CCNA (dean decision on who to teach) • Try to integrate some part of CCNA into FIT/ FOE curriculum. Go through normal faculty procedure. E.g all FIT student by default will take CCNA Sem 1. FOE ???? • Extra qualification in case you resign after Master/PHD • Do some final year project on networking • do some networking research • Network Consultancy • sponsor curriculum. Java, Cabling, Unix • Offer it to MMU student and integrate it to our curriculum later • etc ( tell me if you want )
Career path • CCNA --> CCNP ---> CCIE • Many others more, CCDP, CCIP etc. Kindly refer to www.cisco.com for more info. • The next step (CCNP Academy) • $equipment - US$60K, Cisco Sponsor US$45K, MMU fork out US$15K. • Instructor training - RM50K per instructor via Network Academy Program (hotel, allowance, training fee. 40 days) • 3 - 5x more difficult • U may fail the exam • NTU Singapore offer CCNP to student S$8,100/= per student for 1 year (4 semester) • For commercial training check out • http://www.training-partners.com

Quatifiable knowledge after CCAI training • Knowledge equal to average network engineer with 1 year working experience • know how to design, configure, maintain and trouble shoot a network of about 1000 nodes (using Cisco router ) without much difficulty • some knowledge in dial-up, ISDN, frame-relay, ACL.
Rules & regulation • You may be better than me in networking • --> may not 1 2 hear my boring lecture • So, lecture attendance is optional • If U can pass online exam & skill based exam, U can come late but don’t disturb the class • Orientation & GLN :- open book exam • Other close book • Once U finish the exam, U leave. Cannot stay back to help others • No copying during online exam • NO helping during skill base exam • U can discuss b4 the exam, once exam question is given out no more discussion.

So that I can schedule the online & skill base exam • Others commitment (meeting etc let me know as well) • Sorry ?? • What I tell U is ? • What I think U should know and U 1 2 know ?
