  1. SAMR Lesson Plan Design

  2. Original Lesson • Lesson on the Schlieffen Plan • For grade 10 History • WWI unit • Expectations • The student will understand how Germany’s decision to launch the Schlieffen plan was one of the main causes of World War I • Resources • Overhead Projector • Transparencies

  3. Assessment Method • Political Cartoon Analysis

  4. Lesson Plan Development Based on the SAMR Model

  5. Substitution - Students answer questions on Google Docs • Assessment made easy • Allows for collective participation

  6. Substitution to Augmentation – Students collaborate on a document as a group • Thought process will be shown in comments and through revisions on the document • Useful for assessment because teacher can see who is doing the work

  7. Augmentation to Modification – Groups assume role of a country • post as their country creating a Facebook Newsfeed or Twitter Tweets

  8. Ex: Germany before invading Belgium issued a statement requesting free passage through the country. • This could then be turned into a group that is role-playing Germany posting on a Belgium group’s wall issuing that statement.

  9. Modification to Redefinition – Other groups (countries) reply to other groups posts/tweets as their country • Students would have to engage in critical thinking • Each group (country) will have a problem to resolve

  10. They as historical actors will have to assume roles within a historical perspective, and understand why certain decisions were made by countries in 1914. • Ex: Britain chooses to come to Belgium’s aid as a result of a Treaty signed in London in 1839.
