This magazine challenges conventional forms by altering layer opacities, borders, and font styles while adhering to picture and font size conventions. It targets 15-21-year-olds interested in urban trends and features graffiti artists and underground music. Distribution would likely be through music labels or independent shops/websites, utilizing Photoshop and InDesign. The project enhanced Photoshop skills, media product conventions, and benefited the final product greatly.

Forms and conventions • My media product in this case a magazine challenges the forms and conventions of other magazines as it provides a unique way of displaying content through change in layer opacities, borders, image and font style and the general look of the product whilst still sticking to some conventions, i.e. picture placement and amount as well as font size and colours. So in essence I developed the guidelines of the conventional magazine by giving them my own unique twist. I did this for a number of reasons, to stand out amongst competitors, to cater to my target audience and to push the boundaries of conventional media products such as ‘Q’ or ‘Kerrang’.
Audience and social group • My magazine represents a niche market for specific audiences, although anyone could pick up my magazine and read it the product is primarily targeting the 15-21 age bracket. It represents social groups such as graffiti artists and inner city youth. It does this by offering free gifts related to them as well as featuring artists they are likely to have heard of. As my target audience is largely youths who are interested in art, under ground music and urban trends i featured aticles specific to their interests. For example the magazine offers a free graffiti marker as well as promoting small producers through websites like ‘Soundcloud’ .
Institutions • Due to the fact my media product caters for a very small target audience an institution is very unlikely to publish and distribute it on a large scale. It is likely that a music label or independent shop or website would be the institution for a product like mine. My product would probably be distributed and published on the internet or in stores applicable to the content.
Technologies • through the construction of my media product I developed skills in programs like Photoshop and Indesign. I learnt how to experiment with fonts, opacities and brushes in photo.
Progression • I feel through out the project I have picked up skills and knowledge in many fields. I have learnt many Photoshop skills and techniques whilst learning the forms and conventions of popular media products, I feel this has benefited my final product immensly
