Think Aloud Questions In the middle of reading, I stop. I stop a lot. When I stop, I ask myself questions. Normally, I ask them silently (in my head). If I said them out loud, I might seem like a crazy person who talks to himself. I’m not that kind of crazy. Root Word Vocabulary Sometimes when I stop, I ask questions about words I think I might know. Every word is made up of roots. For example, theo. I know it from words like theocrat and atheist. As a class (meaning we aren’t done until everyone has done it and meaning you can ask for help from nearby students): 1. Find charter, Parliament, and compact. Circle each word and underline the nearby definition. 2. Find the first four acts mentioned in the reading. Circle each act and underline the four most important words of the nearby description. 3. Find Intolerable Acts. Write the names of the two acts that let British soldiers into colonists’ houses under Intolerable Acts. 三 Hey King! Marking the Text (3 parts)
Form groups of three. Send a member of the group up to receive the next page of activities. Phrases to Know Match these six phrases from the Declaration of Independence with its definition. When everyone in your group has the right answers, send someone to the front with every members’ paper. B.
