MünchhausenBook by Erich Kästner Book Review by Tim Hörmann
The Person • Baron Münchhausen was born as a German nobleman in 1720 in the city of Bodenwerder, Germany. • His real name was Hieronymus von Münchhausen. • After school he was trained to become an army officer. • He joined the Russian army and fought against various countries. • He died in 1797.
The Book The character was Baron Münchhausen. It took place in Russia, other places in Europe, and even the moon! The book contains eight short stories. Baron Münchhausen was a real person, but his adventures are not real but exaggerated stories from his life. After his return to his home he told stories about his adventures during his life as an officer. My favorite story is about his “Air-ride on a Cannonball”
My Favorite Story My favorite chapter takes place during the war between Russia and Turkey. Baron Münchhausen fought in the Russian Army. The general asked him to spy the Turkish fortress. So he shot himself into the air with a cannonball from a cannon next to him. He observed the Turkish Army from above. Then he jumped on an approaching Turkish cannonball and turned safely back to his position!!!
Another Great Story When he tried to jump with his horse across a swamp, at first turned around in the air when he realized his jumping was short. Also at the second trial he jumped too short and landed in the swamp. When he was stuck in the mud and his horse could not move back or forth anymore. He was lucky to be very strong: he pulled himself and the horse up by pulling on his own hair.
