Models of accreditation • Bespoke in response to community need • Off-the-shelf in response to community need • Necessary for specific roles • Recognition for general activities
Bespoke • Lack of women in local leadership roles • “Women in Governance” (WinG) project • New learning modules accredited through OCN on “Power and Diversity” and “Effective Local Governance” at levels 1-3 • 35% of volunteers gained accreditation • 200 women completed the courses
Off-the-shelf • High levels of unemployment in the borough • “Enhanced Volunteering Project” • Using pre-accredited modules in “Employability Skills”, “Business Administration” and “Customer Care Skills” • 73 people completing programme – 35 securing paid employment, 28 going on to longer-term training or education, and 20 people continuing to volunteer long-term
Necessary • CAB modular training necessary to be able to volunteer at the CAB – 20,000 volunteers • London Youth offering accreditation to volunteers pursuing specific roles (e.g. moving towards becoming youth workers) • Delivered through front-line organisations currently
Recognition • Offering opportunities to gain accreditation for learning gained as a result of volunteering • ASDAN Certificate in Community Volunteering • Building a portfolio of evidence based on volunteering experience, but not tied to a specific role or type of activity
