  2. International Baccalaureate • IB tests are given all over the world on the same dates. • 122 countries offer diploma programs • 1700 diploma programs world wide

  3. Who recognizes IBO? • The International Baccalaureate is acknowledged around the world for providing challenging programs of international educational and rigorous assessment. • Diploma Program graduates are strongly courted by universities and colleges; these institutions often offer credit or advanced standing to Diploma Program graduates. Additionally, local, state, provincial and federal governments are recognizing the quality of the International Baccalaureate programs and increasingly allowing IB assessments to replace standardized tests.

Student A: • Takes IB English Exam and receives 5. • UO: 20 credits (WR 121, 122, Eng 104-106) • OSU: 9 credits (WR 115, 121, Eng 104) • PSU: 15 credits (WR 121, Eng 104-106) • SOU: 16 credits (WR 121, 122, Eng 104-105) • In comparison to AP credit: only 3 credits awarded for writing 121 if pass AP exam with 3 or better at UO and OSU.

Student B goes for full diploma: • At OSU if you receive a score of 30 or higher: • Guaranteed admission to OSU • Sophomore standing and IB scholarships • Annual, renewable $2000 scholarship • At Pacific University if you receive a score of 30 or higher: • Priority Housing • Sophomore standing • Annual, renewable $3000 scholarship • Study Abroad and International Experience Programs

  7. SAVE MONEY!!! • Juniors: One exam: $229.00 Two exams: $321.00 • Seniors: Four exams: $368.00 Five exams: $460.00 • Total = $689 • OSU is $2242 a term (12 credits) • $6726 for 1 year at OSU so save $6037 + books + living expenses...

What are the advantages of pursuing the full IB Diploma? • Opportunity to have an academic challenge • Chance to be measured on an international standard • Ability to compete for admission to prestigious colleges and universities • Education that will enable you to transition easily into university level work • Earn college credit • Great practice for rigor of college

  9. NIHS Student Choices • Take regular NIHS courses. Courses will show up on transcripts as IB. • Do certificate testing in your senior year. • Go for the full IB diploma your junior and senior year.

  10. Being in NIHS you are setting yourself up to achieve your career goals. • NIHS teachers will write letters of recommendation for you. • OSU and UO look for students that are in NIHS. Even if you don’t take any IB tests, your transcript will say IB next to the course. • Schools internationally look for students that are part of an IB program.

  11. Can a student take only a few IB exams? • Yes! Students who feel strong in only certain areas may take certificate tests • IB certificate testing is done only during the senior year • Students may earn college credit in areas where they test

Enroll in North International High School • Complete Theory of Knowledge and required paper and oral presentation • Complete 150 hours of activities in the categories of Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS) • Complete and submit an Extended Essay senior year • Do advanced academic work and testing in six areas of study, three of which must be at the Higher Level (two years of instruction completed). Full IB Diploma Requirements

  13. Requirements Continued… • The six subjects must include: a. History b. Language A1 (English) c. Science (Chemistry or Biology) d. Mathematics e. Language B (Spanish or Japanese) f. Film Studies • Exams are taken in grades 11 and 12 only. • Up to two SL exams can be taken in your junior year. We recommend this as it creates less work for you your senior year. HL exams cannot be taken in your junior year.
