S.A. Bodeen • S.A. Bodeen is a well known for her children books and many young adult books. One of the most known book is Elizabeti’s Doll which has won the Ezra Jack Keats Award. She is a peace corps worker and has traveled the world with her husband and her daughters. While she was living in the Pacific Northwest she wrote the book The Compound. The Compound is the first novel that she has written

Exposition • Eli on a camping trip with his family • News of nuclear war has broken out • Rex Yankakis rushes his family to the compound • Eli’s twin Eddy and his grandmother don’t make it to the compound
Rising Action • Eli’s younger sister talks about the outside world and reminds Eli about his twin Eddy • Eli takes his twins computer out of his room • He finds internet • Food supply starts to run out
Climax • Eli starts to find out more information on the outside world • Finds a secret door in his dad office • Gets a CD with a new date on it and is told it just came out • Mother tells him that there is an original of a painting when she was told it was a replica
Climax • Rex shows Eli his secret lab • He tells Eli about cloning family members • Eli talks to Eddy and finds out there wasn’t a nuclear war • He finds out that Rex has been doing research on cloning
Falling Action • Eli goes and see’s the clones • His father has a mental break down • Eli knocks out his father • Father gets sick and has to go to the hospital • Mother goes into labor • Eli figures out the code for the door
Resolution • Eli figures out that his father was planning to trap his family for years before he trapped them • Been making prototypes of a more affordable compounds • The compound gets destroyed • Rex goes to a private island • Eli and the rest of his family is reunited and move to Hawaii with there grandmother
Setting • Takes place in an underground compound to protect the Yankakis family from nuclear war • Takes place in the Seattle, Washington • Takes place in the future
