Baptism Not For Forgiveness of Sins? What do the Scriptures say?
Matthew 28.19-20 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, {20} teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
Mark 16.15-16 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. {16} He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 2:41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.
Acts 22.16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'
Romans 6.3-4 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? (4) Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Galatians 3.26-27 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. (27) For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
1 Corinthians 5.17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Baptism Not For Forgiveness of Sins? History of the error
Baptism Not For Forgiveness of Sins? “As with any single verse or passage, we discern what it teaches by first filtering it through what we know the Bible teaches on the subject at hand. In the case of baptism and salvation, the Bible is clear that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not by works of any kind, including baptism (Ephesians 2:8-9). So, any interpretation which comes to the conclusion that baptism, or any other act, is necessary for salvation, is a faulty interpretation.”
Ephesians 2.8-10 (8) For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, (9) not of works, lest anyone should boast. (10) For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
The Solution? Baptism NOT like medicine which can be taken without faith that it will work It must be taken “in faith” – that is, knowing its purpose and believing it Otherwise, we have not really believed and we have not really obeyed And we have no word of God that we are saved The solution is to obey now!
