USGS Activities in Support of the MEP, Cape Cod • Delineated watersheds to fresh and coastal waters on Cape Cod: about 600 estuaries, ponds, streams, and wells: in cooperation with MADEP (completed 2004) • Developed and evaluated flow-based (particle-tracking) methods to estimate nitrogen loads: in cooperation with Cape Cod Commission (completed 2007) • Develop and evaluate solute-transport methods to predict nitrogen loads resulting from TMDL-driven wastewater management actions: in cooperation with MADEP (completed spring 2012)

Incorporation of MEP Scenarios, Town of Mashpee • Onsite systems in unsewered parcels discharged at 26.25 mg/L • Nitrogen from onsite septic systems removed from proposed sewered areas • Accumulated septic-system return flow discharged at treatment plants • Nitrogen in treated water discharged at 3-10 mg/L
