Where to start • Determine what schools meet your son/daughters academic and athletic requirements. • Contact those coaches via email or U.S. mail expressing your interest as well as accomplishments • Don’t be afraid to “brag” coaches may not know anything about you unless you list your accomplishments • Send a DVD of your son/daughter competing in their sport • Broaden your search (outside of California) • May be able to walk-on as a student-athlete and gain all the benefits of a scholarship player • Be realistic, make sure that your son/daughter’s goals are within reach, and always have a back up plan.
Where to start • Finding the right college • Not only about money, students need to find the right fit • College life, majors, team, coaches, school location, reputation of team • Make sure to get information in writing (no student is given a full ride for 4-5 years) • Verbal commitments do not guarantee scholarship must sign official national letter of intent.
