Adjectives • These are words that describe or modify another person or thing in the sentence.
Degrees of Adjectives • The degrees of comparison are known as the positive, the comparative, and the superlative. (Only the comparative and superlative show degrees.) We use the comparative for comparing two things and the superlative for comparing three or more things.
Example: • The first bottle is big. • The second bottle is bigger that the first one. • The third bottle is the biggest of the three.
How to compare adjectives? 1. Add er and estto short adjectives of one syllable (sometimes two syllables)
How to compare adjectives? 2. If a short adjective ends with consonant and y, change the y to i and add er and est.
How to compare adjectives? 3. If a short adjective ends with e, add er and st.
How to compare adjectives? 4. Put more/less and most/leastin front of longer adjectives (with two or more syllables) to show comparison.
