Square of Life!

1. Square of Life! Lorena Ria Leah Clara

2. Hawaii! DeSilva Elementary School seemed to find a lot of things in their square of life. They found plants, such as weeds, grass, roots, moss, a flower petal, a gardenia plant, and a Hawaiian guava tree. They also found living things like a lizard tail, black beetles, fire ants, a pincher bug, worms, rolliepollies, millipedes, a mosquito, a cockroach, a shiny see-through shell and much more. They didn’t find many non-living things except dirt, mud and small rocks.

3. Pennsylvania! Goodnoe’s square meter differed a lot from DeSilva’s square meter. Mrs. Lawall’s class found many plants such as: honey locust trees, clovers, small plants, colorful leaves, sharp blades of grass, roots, and unidentified weeds. They found aluminum foil, small rocks, and they were astonished to find a flattened cigarette. Unlike DeSilva, Goodnoe found few animals. They found spider eggs, jumping bugs, a colorful spider, ants, a few flies and an earwig.

4. Similarities! • Both schools found black ants in their square meter. • GoodnoeElementary and DeSilva Elementary both found similar kinds of plants: twigs, trees, leaves, moss, weeds, roots, grass etc. • Both fifth grade classes’ squares had non-living things such as dirt, mud and small rocks.

5. Differences! • The school in Hawaii found many more living things like: a lizard tail, black beetles, fire ants, worms, millipedes, a sluggish creature with eight legs, rolliepollies and a shiny, see-through shell. • Goodnoe Elementary found many more non-living things such as a cigarette and aluminum foil.
