  3. Seta Landscape • Business as usual • Setas no longer report to the Department of Labour • Setas are to move to Department of Higher Education and Training • Final structures are not yet in place, public will be notified as more information becomes available 3

National Skills Fund • Funding window for development projects that support growth sectors of the SA economy • Application form and guideline available on Fasset’s website • R1.5 billion available • 1st window closed 30 April, currently evaluating • If additional funds available, 2nd window applications open 1 August 2009 4

  5. Fasset Disability Toolkit • Employment of people with disabilities in SA and the finance sector is currently as follows • Goal is to facilitate the accelerated employment and retention of people with disabilities 5

  6. Fasset Disability Toolkit • Aims to create awareness • Case studies offer guidance • Legislation – how to comply • Challenges in employing people with disabilities • Good practice and recommendation strategies • Retention and available resources 6

  7. Mandatory Grant 2009 • Mandatory Grant was due 30 June 2009 • Includes WSP and ATR • The grants are currently being assessed • Payments from August 2009 7

  8. Strategic Cash Grant (SCG) • Up to 20% of SDL • Approved Mandatory Grant is a prerequisite • For education & training interventions in strategic areas for 2009 calendar year • Deadline is 31 March 2010 • Form and guidelines from www.fasset.org.za 8

Scarce and Critical Skills • Scarce Skills: people needed to fill job vacancies • Critical Skills: a specific skill that is ‘critical’ to the full functioning of a person within their job • Job titles are linked OFO codes • Organising Framework for Occupations • A coding system to enable cross sector and national research • 2009/2010 Scarce Skills Guide 9

  10. Learnership Cash Grant (LCG) • Learnership commencement period 1 January to 31 December 2009 • Any extension applications must reach Fasset on or before 31 March 2010 • Grant due 31 March 2010 • Higher amount for people with disabilities – R27,000 vs. R47,250 for 3-year programme 10

Tax Amendment Bill • Released for public comment • Documents can be found on www.treasury.gov.za • Substantial and positive changes regarding the learnership tax allowance  • An increase in the allowance for multi-year learnerships • Forward your comments directly to Treasury and/or work with your professional body 11
