Federoff Stages of MEIOSIS
Interphase • Chromosomes Duplicate • Prepares to Divide
Prophase I • Homologous Chromosomes pair up to form a Tetrad • Crossing-over Occurs
Metaphase I • Homologous Chromosomes line up across the center of the cell
Anaphase I • Spindle fibers pull each Homologous Chromosome pair toward opposite ends of the cell
Telophase I and Cytokinesis • Telophase – Nuclear membrane reforms around each cluster of chromosomes • Cytokinesis – Follows Telophase, forming two new cells
Prophase II • Chromosomes (with 2 Chromatids) become Visible
Metaphase II • Chromosomes line up at the center of the cell
Anaphase II • Paired (Sister) Chromatids separate
Telophase II and Cytokinesis • Telophase II – Nuclear membrane reforms • Cytokinesis – 4 new genetically different, haploid cells are produced
