Background In 2008, the Coalition for the Homeless approached Orange County and the City of Orlando about replacing the Men’s emergency shelter – The Pavilion The concept was a new direction for addressing chronically homeless men in Orange County
Background The project is a new Men’s Service Center, a 32,000 sq. ft. residential facility to house 250 men. The collaborative effort will create a residential program to help get men off the street Into a stable environment On the road to stability and independence

Coalition for the Homeless Mission To address the needs of homeless men, women, and children in our community and to serve as a catalyst for community collaboration to end homelessness.
Coalition for the Homeless About the Coalition • Largest homeless service provider in Central Florida • Last year: • Provided over 209,000 nights of shelter to men, women and children • Delivered more than 302,000 meals • Housed about 600 people on a given night • Supported 374 families with 690 children • Benefited from almost 17,000 volunteers

Men’s Pavilion-Existing • Overnight drop-in shelter • Warehouse type facility without air conditioning • Men sleep on mats on the floor • Open floor design - no privacy • Sleep in the same place where they eat • Must leave campus each morning

New Men’s Service CenterJoe Smith Life Tomorrow Joe is sleeping in a bed and benefiting from a structured program including: • Case management • VA benefit assistance • Mental health counseling • Hope for a self sufficient tomorrow Life Today Joe has been a homeless veteran for 5 years, sleeping on the floor of the existing Pavilion. He currently: • Is receiving no benefits • Has some mental health concerns • Has little hope for change
New Men’s Service Center • To be built on Coalition’s main campus, 639 W. Central Blvd. • Residential facility to accommodate 250 men • Separate sleeping quarters including dorms for different populations, i.e. substance abuse recovery; physically disabled; veterans • Dedicated kitchen and dining room

New Men’s Service Center • MSC residential program will fill a critical service void in the community • The unique needs of chronically homeless men will be addressed • Will help men develop the personal and financial stability needed to become self-sufficient, thereby breaking the cycle of homelessness
New Men’s Service Center The Community Unites • The tri-party agreement we present to you today represents the collective efforts of many dedicated individuals. • Untold hours have been committed by dozens of business professionals from various sectors of the community. • After 18-months of discussions we have worked tirelessly to craft the tri-party agreement before you today.
