Problem: Initializing the system • The AIONAV application has to be initialized on the Windows system. The user must start the application and enter the initial position. • This means that the user must have direct control of the Windows system.
Solution: Use VNC or Remote Desktop • Open VNC or Remote Desktop client on Android device. • Initialize the system (start system, input initial position). • Open logging app on Android device. • Now you can log the coordinates in the Android app.
Problem: No internet access • Android doesn’t allow connection to an ad-hoc network. This makes it impossible for an Android device to talk to another device without an external network through Wi-Fi. • Additionally, the built in Wi-Fi adapter for the Windows system doesn’t support ad-hoc networks either.
Solution • Bluetooth? • Potentially slow. • Little experience with it. • Not sure if Android allows you to do ad-hoc Bluetooth network.
Alternative Solution • Windows 8 Tablet • Windows 8 tablets allow you to run full Windows 8 OS. • This would allow us to run the AIONAV application natively on the tablet. Meaning that the small Windows 7 computer is not needed. • No need for Wi-Fi connection at all. • Cons • Application may not be built for Windows 8. When trying it on Windows 8 laptop, sometimes I would have to restart to make the application work correctly.
