Vocabulary • Purchase-an agreement to take ownership of the title for a car • Lease-long term rental of a car • Title-proof of ownership • Down payment- amount paid through cash or trade-in • APR-annual percentage rate on the loan for a car purchase • Car insurance-required by law to protect the other drivers

Vocabulary • License-proof that you can legally drive • Car tabs - taxes on car use • Depreciation – the lowering of the value of the car • Average mileage – 12,000 miles per year • Accident investigation – the math that proves speed during crashes using tire marks in the road, braking ability and tire wear. • Traffic ticket - a note that requires you to pay a certain amount of money for a law that has been broken.

  4. Formula and Example • (Mileage of car) / (age of car in years) = miles per year • If the number is less than 12,000 than the car has low to average mileage. • If the car has above this number than the can is considered to have high mileage • My 2001 car has 122,231 miles on it • We are in 2011 so 2011-2001 = 10 years • 122,231 / 10 = 12,223 miles per year or average to high mileage
