WIND ENERGY Wind energy is the indirect form of solar energy since wind is induced by the uneven heating of the earth’s crust by the sun. wind energy is converted to electrical energy by wind turbine There are 3 types of operation for wind power generation 1. 0.5 -10kw for isolated single premises 2. 10-100Kw (Medium) 3. 1.5Mw for connection to the grid
Cont… Wind power is very attractive because It is plentiful inexhaustible non -polluting it does not impose extra heat But wind power Non steady undependable
Power and efficiency rate Mass in air flowing carries a certain amount of energy which varies in proportional to the product of air mass and square of velocity --mechanical power coefficient Not all the energy present in the air can be converted into electrical energy at rotor shaft. The theoretical maximum efficiency of wind power is limited at about 59. So the electrical output of the turbine is --Electrical efficiency rate
v/f control & harmonic elimination The controller is designed for voltage and frequency control and for harmonic elimination The controller consists of insulated gate bipolar junction transistor based voltage source converter along with battery energy storage system at its dc link dc
y When there is a deficiency in the generated power, the battery supplies the additional required load demand by discharging and maintain the frequency constant While there is an excess generated power the battery starts charging and consumes additional generated power which is not consumed by the consumer loads
Control scheme Control scheme is based on the generation of reference source currents Reference source current having two components one is reactive component for controlling the magnitude of generated voltage and another one is real component for f control The amplitude of active power component of source current is estimated by dividing the difference between and output of frequency controller with
Cont… and multiplied with their phase components The sum of the real and reactive components gives the total reference source current The amplified current error signals are compared with fixed frequency triangular carrier wave to generate pwm switching signal for the device vsc
