Home / SchoolCommunication • All communication and student work for the week will be sent home in the Wednesday Hawk Envelopes. • Wednesday envelopes need to be returned the next day (Thursday). • Please take the time to review the papers in the envelope to see how your child is doing in class and also to see what is going on at school and in the community.

  5. Homework Given out every Monday Due back every Friday Mon-Thurs work includes Reading, Writing, Math & Word Club Words Each day’s worth of work should not take more than 20 mins. If your child is frustrated, have him/her come back to that assignment at a later time. All homework assignments are a review of what has already been taught in class.

  6. The Great Reading Race Movement in the reading race is based on AR (Accelerated Reading) points Students must read an AR book twice before taking a test. Students may receive help reading the story with an adult but must take the actual quiz ON THEIR OWN. Students will earn prizes in 5 point increments. (5, 10, 15, 20…) Students can only take quizzes at school. The district doesn’t allow quizzes to be taken at home. (You will not be able to log on)

  7. Classroom Expectations Always raise your hand for comments and questions. Finish your work ON TIME. Treat others as you want to be treated. Use your quiet voice. Stay focused. Always give your best effort. Have a great time!

Key Language Arts Standards • Distinguish long-and short-vowel sounds in orally stated single-syllable words (e.g., bit/bite). • Add, delete, or change target sounds to change words (e.g., change cow to how; pan to can). • Blend and segment words (e.g., /c/ a/ t/ = cat; /f/ l/ a/ t/ = flat). • Read common and irregular sight words (WCW) • Read compound words and contractions • Read word families (e.g., __ag: bag, rag, flag) • Spell three and four letter short vowel words correctly

Language Arts Standards Continued • Respond to who, what, where, when, why & how questions (before, during & after reading) • Retell passages from a story (beg, mid, end) • Identify and describe plot, setting, and characters • Compare two different books (alike & differences) • Read fiction and non-fiction books • Identify different parts of a text (title page, author, illustrator, index, glossary).

Writing Standards • Students will be writing 3 different types of writing every trimester • Every trimester students will be writing: • Descriptive Stories • Narrative Stories • Opinion Stories • In each type of writing, students will be graded on capitals/punctuations, grammar, details and spelling.

Key Math Standards Common Core Standards: critical thinking skills, explaining how they solved each problem and how/why they chose the strategy used to solve that problem Count, read, and write whole numbers to 120 Compare and order whole numbers to 120 Know by memory the addition and corresponding subtraction problems to 20 Solve one and two digit addition and subtraction problems Describe, extend, and explain repeating patterns Count by 2s, 5s and 10s to 120

  14. * If you are interested in being a volunteer please fill out your information and availability before you leave. I will need at least two volunteers per week specifically one on Wednesdays and one on Fridays. Volunteer time is from 10:00-11:30.
