E N D
What is a thesis statement? • A thesis statement is ONE sentence that tells your reader exactly what your paper will be about.
Where does my thesis statement go? • Your thesis statement is ALWAYS the last sentence in your first paragraph.
What should I know about thesis statements? • Thesis statements are better when they are not based on your opinion. Thesis statements should be based on strong facts. • Thesis statements should never include the words “I’” or “you.” In fact, your entire research paper should not include these words. Anyone know why?
How do I make a thesis statement? • Your thesis statement should state your topic and the main point you’re driving at with that topic, plus how the subtopics will demonstrate this point.
Let’s try to make one together. • My topic: Elvis Presley • My main point: How his many talents were inspirational to others • My subtopics: Elvis’s film and music careers
Put it together into a ONE-sentence thesis statement. • Many people today who hear Elvis Presley on the radio are unaware that he also had a successful film career; it was his music however, that inspired so many artists who came after him.
