Introduction to Religions 5 – Categories of Religion Monotheism – belief in one God Polytheism – belief in more than one God Non-theistic – does not worship a God Atheism – belief in no existence of a spiritual world Animism – worship of nature spirits Proselytize – to convert someone to your belief or religion

  3. Judaism Studies the TORAH T – The Torah The Jewish Holy Bookcontains the “Law and the Prophets” Christians include the Torah as the first part of the Old Testament This contains the first 5 books of the Bible (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy)

  4. Judaism Studies the TORAH O – Origin of the Judaism The origin of Judaism is the city of Jerusalem, Israel The Jews believe this city was given to them by God to their ancestor Abraham They refer to Jerusalem as “the promised land”

Sinai directly from an encounter with God The laws stated what God desired from his people (examples include: laws toward God and laws toward mankind)
