Vocabulary • Survey- a set of questions designed to collect data. • Population- the people involved in the survey (specific group) • Random Sample- to choose a population without preference (not selecting for a specific reason)
Stand up if you are wearing jeans. • If there are 480 students in TVMS. How many would we expect to be wearing jeans today? • Is this a random sample? (are all groups being considered equally) • What % of the population are we? Is it a big enough sample? • If I survey the students in Mr. Kanavel’s room, how close do you think the estimate would be to ours?
The graph above is the result of a national survey. If there are 230 seventh graders in TVMS, how many would you predict play basketball? How close do you think our estimate is?
