  3. Evidence For Care • What is Multiple Sclerosis (MS)? • Unpredictable • Disabling disease of central nervous system • Little is known about care preferences • Previous studies indicate people with MS aren’t always satisfied with care

Evaluation of Evidence • Methods • 2 separate questionnaires sent • Used MS Impact Scale 29 (MSIS-29) • 270 people (42%) responded to both • Question being asked: “What one thing would be most helpful in meeting your current needs?” • Results • 7 categories identified • Help to create MS specific service satisfaction tool

Nursing Diagnosis • Knowledge Deficit r/t recent diagnosis of multiple sclerosis aeb wife worried about current state of uncontrollable crying • Approach to Care • Attempt to calm patient down • Assess for any physical or mental changes • Educate pt. and wife on uncontrollable crying as a symptom • Educate pt. and wife on other common symptoms
