Unit 8 Seminar SC235 – General Biology I Mitosis and Meiosis Recitation Session
Welcome to Unit 8 of General Biology I! Seminar will begin at the top of the hour. Feel free to talk among yourselves until then. I expect that all of you have prepared for tonight’s Seminar. We have a lot to cover tonight and we will be moving fairly quickly. I am also available during office hours each week by AIM, so send me a message if you have questions, comments, or concerns.
OK, it is time to get started… Remember that your participation in Seminar is graded each week. Answer questions asked of you, ask questions if you have them, and try to have fun this hour while keeping comments relevant and on topic. Start any questions you have for me with Paula: and do the same if speaking to a classmate.
Agenda • Week at a Glance • Cell Division: Mitosis vs. Meiosis • Q and A
Week Eight At A Glance • Video Lectures and Reading • Discussion Board (Genetic Disorders) • Lab Project, part I – Tracking Diseases with Pedigrees • Seminar –Cell Division; Mitosis and Meiosis Questions??
This week's seminar is a bit different from other seminars; it is a question and answer session all about mitosis and meiosis, during which I will take you through the phases and stages of mitosis and meiosis and will answer any questions you have about the two kinds of cell reproduction. You should've come to seminar prepared to talk about concepts like homologous pairs, disjunction, replication, chromatids, spindle fibers, and gametes.
