Km • Predates Harare, Jburg, Lusaka • Largest commercial and industrial centre not only in Malawi, but also in northern Mozambique, eastern Zambia and southern Tanzania. • Has road, rail and air links to all parts of the country and rail links to Indian Ocean ports in Mozambique • Poor social indicators - 60% of the city’s population lives in unplanned settlements (poor water and sanitation, electricity, education and health services) • Inadequate and ageing infrastructure - affects negatively quality of life its ability to be an attractive investment location Blantyre City Assembly
