  2. Signs in the Heavens Genesis 1:14 “Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years…”

  3. Does the Bible predict that there will be Signs in the Heavens? Luke 21:25-28 – “There will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars….Then they [who live upon the earth] will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near”

The sun shall be turned into darkness (eclipse), and the moon into blood (Blood Moon), before the great and glorious day of the LORD shall come, and it shall be, that everyone who calls on the Name of the LORD shall be saved” (Peter quoting Joel 2:28-32)

Are there special dates on the Jewish Calendar? • Passover (at approximately when Christians celebrate Easter) (Exodus 12…) • Day of Atonement (National Day of Sacrifice for Sin) • Feast of Booths (Sukkot) Exodus 23:16, 34:22; Leviticus 23:34-43; Numbers 29:12-40; Deuteronomy 16:13-15; Ezra 3:4; and Nehemiah 8:13-18. • The 9th of Av?

  8. 9th of Av • The 9th of Av, is the Fifth Month of the Jewish Calendar; a day of infamy for the Jewish people. • The children of Israel refused to enter the Promised Land (Numbers 14) on that date, causing all 600,000+ adult fighting men to die in the wilderness • The Temple was destroyed for the first time (423 BC) • The Temple was destroyed a second time (69 AD) • Jews were expelled from England (1290 AD) • Jews were expelled from Spain (1492 AD) • The gas chambers of Treblinka began to operate in Poland (1942 AD)

  11. 3 Teenagers Abducted June 12, 2014 • Three Israeli teenage boys -- including one who is American-born – disappeared Thursday, June 12, 2014. Fairly quickly, Israeli authorities determined the boys had been kidnapped and taken into the West Bank. Prime Minister Netanyahu says he had hard evidence that Hamas was responsible. • "Yeshiva students (EyalYifrach, 19, Gil-ad Shaar, 16, and NaftaliFrenkel, 16) were abducted while hitchhiking south of Jerusalem Thursday night, Israeli officials said, leading to a wide-ranging manhunt in the West Bank to locate the three," reports the Times of Israel. • The bodies were later found under a pile of rocks…

Escalating Events • Then Jewish extremists kidnapped and murdered an Arab teenage boy, apparently burning him alive. • Palestinian extremists in Gaza (Hamas) began firing rockets at Jewish and Arab civilians in southern Israel. • More than 220 rockets had been fired at Israel by July 1, 2014. Israel's "Iron Dome" system shot down many of them. • The Israeli Air Force began striking Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets in Gaza. • On Tuesday, July 8, 2014, Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government authorized "Operative Protective Edge" to attack the terrorists in Gaza. The IDF called up 40,000 reservists for a massive ground invasion of Gaza.

Escalating Events As of August 26, 2014: • 4,450 rockets and other projectiles have been fired at Israel • 3,555 of these fell inside Israel • 221 fell in Israelite residential areas • The Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted 714 rockets • The Israel Air Force hit 5,226 Hamas and terrorist targets mostly inside Gaza

  14. Escalating Events Matthew 23:37-39 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. Behold, your house is being left to you desolate! For I say to you, from now on, you shall not see Me until you say, “Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the LORD””

  16. Signs in the Heavens A Lunar Eclipse happens every 18 years, 11 days, and 8 hours. A ‘tetrad’ (NASA terminology) is a series of four lunar eclipses in sequence, which can also be called ‘blood moons’ because of the color of the moon as an eclipse occurs and light from the sun passes through the earth’s atmosphere

  18. Signs in the Heavens There have been 62 Tetrads (Four Blood Moons in a row) that have occurred over the past 2000 years (since the birth of Jesus Christ). From 0 to 100 AD – There were none 100 to 200 AD – Three (162-163; 180-181; 198-199), with only the first one falling on Passover and Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot). 200 – 500 AD – Thirteen, but none of them fell on Jewish holidays. 500 – 700 AD – No Tetrads at all

Signs in the Heavens 700 – 800 AD – Three Tetrads, with only one occurring on the Feasts of Passover and Sukkot, in 795-796 AD. 800 – 900 AD – Eight, but only two fell on Jewish holidays, in 842-843 and 860-861. In 843, the Treaty of Verdun was signed, ending civil war, dividing Europe in three, ruled by Charlemagne’s grandsons (roughly France, Holland/Switzerland/Italy, and Germany) 900 – 1000 AD – Six Tetrads, but none occurred on Jewish holidays 1000 – 1300 AD – No Tetrads

Signs in the Heavens 1300 – 1400 AD – Six Tetrads, but none of them fell on Jewish holidays 1400 – 1500 AD – Four Tetrads, with two falling on Jewish Feasts: 1428 -1429 and 1493-1494. • In 1492 King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella signed an edict to expel all Jews from Spain. • Many believe Christopher Columbus was Jewish, and that many of his passengers who came to America were Jews fleeing persecution.

  22. Signs in the Heavens 1900 – 2000 AD – Five Tetrads, but only two occurred on Jewish Feast Days: 1949-1950 and 1967-1968. • In 1948, Israel became a nation, with war in 1949 • In 1967, Israel recaptured Jerusalem and miraculously defeated Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan

Signs in the Heavens From 2000 – 2100 – Eight Tetrads will occur, but only ONE will fall on Jewish Feast Days---2014-2015 • April 15, 2014 Passover • October 8, 2014 Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) • March 20, 2015 A full eclipse of the sun will occur • April 4, 2015 Passover • September 13, 2015 A full eclipse of the sun will occur • September 28, 2015 Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot)

  25. What Are the Odds? The odds of a full moon are 1 x 29 (almost monthly) The odds of a lunar eclipse are 1 x 110 (18 years, 11 days, 8 hours) The odds of a super moon occurrence are 1 x 6,570 (when the moon’s elliptical orbit around the earth is closest to the earth) The odds of a super moon (when the moon is closest to earth in elliptical orbit) during a lunar eclipse are 1 x n? (astronomical)

  26. What Are the Odds? What are the odds of a super blood red moon falling on the Feast of Tabernacles---and being seen in Jerusalem where everyone is outside in their (sukkahs) booths?

  27. Some say “this is nonsense” • Eclipses of the moon are normal, and do actually occur every 18 years 11 days and 8 hours • Biblical Jewish Holidays occur every year like clockwork • Eclipses of the sun and moon rarely fall on Jewish Holidays (only 64 Tetrads in 2014 years) • That major historical events have happened when these events overlap is a fact, and cannot be just coincidence---but are they divinely appointed? (Gen. 1:14)? • NASA has determined when the dates are for the coming eclipses, of moon and sun, as well as the dates for the super moon soon coming over Jerusalem

  28. Some argue that not all of the eclipses will be seen over Israel! That is true, and they weren’t all seen over Israel when the country became a Jewish nation in 1948, or in 1967 when Jerusalem was re-conquered • God will do what He wants to, whether we like it or not, whether we know it or not, whether we see it or not---or even whether we care! • God loves the entire world, not just the Nation of Israel. With the advent of technology, everyone around the world will be able to view these events.

  29. September 28, 2015 is a Feat of Tabernacles • NASA says there will be a full eclipse of the moon on that date • NASA says it will be a ‘blood moon’ and also a ‘super moon’ that will appear to be about 14 percent larger than normal • It will be visible in the night skies over Jerusalem during the Feast of Tabernacles.

  31. But Israel became a state in 1948, not in 1949-50 when the Tetrads occurred. Yes, these occurred as signs after Israel became a nation---although the BATTLES took place in 1949. Also, the Six-Day War of 1967 did not happen on the day of one of the eclipses either. No one noticed these signs then anyway---not even the Jews.

  32. The eclipses coming in 2014-15 are signs in themselves, as they occur on Jewish Feast Days. If nothing noteworthy happens in 2014 (it already has with war between Israel and Hamas, and the advent of ISIS and the destruction of entire Christian communities in Iraq and Syria), or in 2015, it means these are signs of things to come.

  33. What about Matthew 24:36? "But of that day and hour [when Jesus returns] no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.” • No one is setting dates for the coming of the Lord Jesus, but the signs are coming, and have already begun. • The Lord Jesus could very well come in the next year. • Many biblical scholars believe He will return at the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot), in the Fall of the year.

  34. The eclipses will be happening, the super moon eclipses and eclipses of the sun will be happening, and the Lord Jesus won’t consult any of us about when His return will occur! • What about lunar eclipses seen only partially around the world?

  35. “But immediately after…” Matthew 24:29f – “But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken, and then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect form the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other”

  36. “…Therefore…” Matthew 24:42 – “…Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming, but be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert, and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. For this reason you be ready too; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will”
