HOLLYWOOD & WESTERN – TREES • GUIDELINE: • Plant Gower and Western intersections per plan • Retain mature trees • Retain trees at frontage owners’ requests • Replace unwanted, undesirable trees (poor health, lifting paving, creating a nuisance) • Replacements shall be 36” box size, planted per guideline details in 5’x8’ tree wells • Replacement tree: VOTE TONIGHT
WESTERN AVENUE – TREES • GUIDELINE: • Plant per plan • Retain selected mature trees • Retain trees at frontage owners’ requests • Replace unwanted, undesirable trees (poor health, lifting paving, creating a nuisance) • Replacements shall be 26” box size, planted per guideline details in 4x10’ tree wells • Replacement tree is Chinese Flame Tree
HOLLYWOOD and WESTERN Crosswalk Paving Wausau Granitex pavers are high strength concrete with exposed natural stone aggregate textured finishes. DOT’s white paving stripes will be placed to each side of paved crosswalks, per City requirements.
WESTERN AVENUE – PAVING • Uncolored concrete • Scored at 5’ on centers • Corner paving scored at 2 ½’ on centers and rotated • New ADA ramps
HOLLYWOOD and WESTERNBus Zones • GUIDELINE: • Enhanced Paving • Street Tree if possible • Bus Shelter or bench • Trash receptacle • Bus Schedule Info / Sign • Bus Safety Lighting • New bus shelter where possible (15’ wide sidewalks) HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD WESTERN AVENUE
CURB EXTENSIONS • Benefits of Curb Extensions: • Shortens pedestrian crossing time / distance (less wait time for cars) • Traffic calming – slows vehicles • Enhances aesthetics of the area • Defines a district appearance • May define a sidewalk café zone • Provides additional areas for water infiltration – reduces stormwater overflows and related damage • Improves air quality (added plants)

HOLLYWOOD & WESTERNBus Safety & Other Lighting • Bureau of Street Lighting approved fixtures • Lamp is high pressure sodium (LED available in near future) • Two fixtures may be placed at a Bus Zone and will be maintained by City staff: • VOTE FOR ONE TONIGHT • EXISTING STREET LIGHTING: Paint Poles BLACK (to match existing Hollywood Blvd poles west of Gower) Downtown Light Coachman King
HOLLYWOOD & WESTERNPedestrian Lighting Assessment • Bureau of Street Lighting conducts a special assessment district election (Proposition 218) for approximate cost of $25,000. • If 50% or more of voting property owners approve the assessment district, they will be assessed annually for capital and maintenance costs • City uses the taxes collected to purchase, install, and maintain the pedestrian lights
HOLLYWOOD & WESTERNBUS SHELTERS • As feasible, replace existing City Coordinated Street Furniture program shelter and trash receptacle with this “Heritage Collection” style bus shelter • Install one new shelter at new location on Hollywood Blvd and one new location on Western Ave
SIGNAGE • PROVIDE PEDESTRIAN ORIENTED SIGNS • to show Walking Distances and times from “here” to • places of interest • Involve local artisans in designing, producing, and placing signage
HANGING BASKETS • Add Hanging Flower Baskets at 101 FWY on Hollywood Blvd and on Western Ave

NEXT STEPS • Final City staff reviews & comments • Final community comments • KCA revise plans as needed • September 1 or sooner: Final documents to Council Districts 4 and 13, to be used by Community and City for Grant Applications and Funding
