Four Different Types of Resumes • Functional • Chronological • Combination • Targeted
Functional • Focuses on your skills and experience, rather than on your chronological work history. • Used by people who are changing careers or who have gaps in their employment history. Sample Functional Resume
Chronological • Employers prefer this type of resume • Works well for job seekers with a strong, solid work history. • Lists your work history, with the most recent position listed first • Jobs are listed in reverse chronological order with your current, or most recent job, first. Combination • Lists your skills and experience first. • Your employment history next. • You can highlight the skills you have that are relevant to the job you are applying for • Provide the chronological work history that employers prefer. Sample Combination Resume
Targeted • Highlights the experience and skills you have that are relevant to the job you are applying for. • Takes more work to write • However, it's well worth the effort, especially when applying for jobs that are a perfect match for your qualifications and experience. • Sample Targeted Resume
Job References • People who will speak of your skills and abilities. • Don't include the reference list when you send your resume or list references on your resume. • Have your references on a separate page • Make sure that you have requested permission to use that person as a reference. • Be sure to include full contact information for each of references.
