1. SCOPE OF WORK • API Spec 6A718 1st Edition was issued in March of 2004. • API policy requires specifications to be reviewed every 5 years. • This Task Group was formed at the June 2008 SC6 meeting for the purpose of considering API Spec 6A718 for reaffirmation. • The options available to the Task Group were: • Reaffirm as is • Revise and re-issue • Withdraw if no longer needed • 2. PREVIOUS STATUS REPORT DATE • 3 February 2009 (Winter meeting of SC6)
4. MAJOR ISSUES AND DATES • 6 November 2008 – Announcement of Task Group formation • 2 December 2008 – 1st Task Group meeting, Houston, TX • 2 February 2009 – 2nd Task Group meeting, Houston, TX • 12 May 2009 – 3rd Task Group meeting, Houston, TX • 7 June 2009 – API Standard 6A718 2nd Edition ballot sent to API staff for processing • Note change from “Specfication” to “Standard” • 8 June 2009 – API Standard 6A718 Second Edition ballot issued by API staff to API SC6 membership • 20 July 2009 – API Standard 6A718 Second Edition ballot closing date
5. FUTURE WORK PROGRAM • There were several proposed ballot items that failed due to a lack of technical justification or perceived need. There was, however, a desire by some to pursue these further in the future. These items are as follows: • Higher Strength Grades With Modified Age Hardening Temperature Range • Validation Requirements
6. FUTURE MEETINGS DATES • No meetings scheduled at this point in time. However, the Task Group will be advised if there is a need to convene to resolve any ballot issues from the official API SC6 ballot. • The Work Groups will convene when the Work Group Chairmen determine if and when sufficient information is available to justify development of addition ballot items. • 7. RESOURCE NEEDS • The Task Group and future Work Groups have a sufficient number of volunteers.
