  1. Coax sim • Basic 2m 50ohm coax as one single model • 2m coax made from small (e.g. 10mm) segments • Simulated in both frequency domain (with all the S-parameters to understand what they actually mean) and in the time domain. • See what happens if the cable is not terminated • See what happens if the cable is incorrectly terminated ( e.g. with 100ohm for a 50ohm Coax) • See what happens when the wire resistance increases • See what happens when having a cable dielectric with losses (e.g. polyamide, etc.)

  2. Twisted pair program • Basic simulation of thin copper pair in frequency domain. Vary parameters of cable and simulate effects of this. • Adding simple driver/receiver and look at a serial data stream in time domain at different rates ( 1 – 5 GBits/s) • Add light shield of thin Alu and vary parameters of this • Use of alu wire with copper cladding with and without shield • Use of pre-emphasis driver • Use of cable equalization filter on receiving side • Same simulations with Habia cable: Habia UBT 3601 ST 2 (Still have to find detailed drawing of this custom made cable) • Same simulation with cable used for ATLAS TRT: 28 AWG twisted pair cable • Effects of connectors, etc. • Cross coupling between cables: 3D model with twisting required, effect of shield, etc. • Measurement of cables to compare with simulations: PSI cable, Habia cable, others
