John 14. Jesus meets his followers Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. (27). Why are the disciples troubled? My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come. John 13:33.

John 14 Jesus meets his followers Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. (27)
Why are the disciples troubled? My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.John 13:33
Today’s Core Verse: On that day you will realise that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.John 14:20
It is only when you grasp what it means for God to be a Trinity that you really sense the beauty, the overflowing kindness, the heart-grabbing loveliness of God.
The Trinity is the governing centre of all Christian belief, the truth that shapes and beautifies all others. The Trinity is the cockpit of all Christian thinking.
The irony could not be thicker: what we assume would be a dull or peculiar irrelevance turns out to be the source of all that is good in Christianity. Mike Reeves, ‘The Good God’
Today’s Core Verse: On that day you will realise that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.John 14:20
“That day” is when… The Father will give you another Counsellor to be with you for ever – the Spirit of truth…. He will be in you (16 – 17)
‘another’ counsellor? (‘allos’ not ‘heteros’) “Occasionally as part of the manufacturing process it will be necessary to replace one of the confectionaries illustrated with another of equal equality.”
“That day” is when… The Father will give you another Counsellor to be with you for ever – the Spirit of truth…. He will be in you (16 – 17)
“Counsellor?” Paraclete: advocate, comforter, friend. “Holy Spirit” (26)Spirit = ‘pneuma’ = spirit, wind, breath (unseen but real, powerful, life-bringing)
“Counsellor?” Paraclete: advocate, comforter, friend. “Holy Spirit” (26) Holy?
The Holy Spirit is holy Which means what? 1Sam 2: 2 Holiness = God’s character Psalm 24: 3 – 4 Holiness = purity & devotion Habakkuk 1: 13 Holiness = a hatred of sin Deuteronomy 7: 6 Holiness = being set apart Isaiah 5: 16 Holiness = right living Exodus 3: 5 Holiness = God’s presence Zechariah 14: 20 – 21 Anyone can be holy
So: A person filled with and keeping in step with the Holy Spirit will… • manifest God’s character, • become increasingly pure, • be increasingly devoted to God, • have a growing hatred of sin, • have increasingly high spiritual and moral standards, • be increasingly committed to God’s service, • live with increasing standards of justice and ‘rightness’, • daily enjoy the presence of God. And this lifestyle is possible for anyone.
Let’s recap... On that day you will realise that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.John 14:20:
“That day” is when… The Father will give you another Counsellor to be with you for ever – the Spirit of truth…. He will be in you John 14: 16 – 17

So Christ’s peace comes when the Holy Spirit arrives in our lives and we can realise that…
