His Life • Born in Philadelphia • College of Art and Architecture at University of Pennsylvania • Worked in a newspaper for two years before moving to India to do freelance work • Primarily works for National Geographic • Style, McCurry tries to capture the persons life and how they live, or the moments that are important to them

  3. His Life • McCurry was a freelancer in India and took his camera everywhere, he learned that a camera is just an object and that the people are the real picture/image. • He had been featured in every major magazine for his photography • His most famous photo is one of a 12 year old Afghan who had to flee her country to stay alive

  4. Natural lighting The child is the main subject of the photo, he is the only object in the photograph. This photo is so simple, yet at the same time it’s very interesting and complex I choose this one because it’s such a tiny child yet he’s so stern and serious ChildNovice Monk, India, 2001

Natural lighting The rock is the main object of this picture with the monks in the background adding to it This picture uses rule of thirds the rock is taking up so much of the photo and the tiny monks praying to it aren’t really anything compared to the rock I choose it because it has an element of peace and serenity FaithBurma, 1994

Natural lighting The boy is the main focus of the picture The picture focuses on the red power of the boys face, there is another boy in the background but he isn’t the main focus I choose this one because you don’t see this type of thing everyday, I feel like McCurry is taking a piece of another culture and putting it into a photo IndiaBombay, India 1996

IndiaBombay, India 1996 • Natural Lighting • The focus of this picture is the mother with her child • This picture uses selective focus and rule of thirds you really only see the and child your eye only focuses on them • I choose this picture because this is what lower class Indians do, the beg my typing on windows and asking tourists
