Alexander Taming Bucephalus There is a legend told about Alexander the Great taming a horse named Bucephalus. According to the legend, Philip of Macedon and Macedonian subjects looked on as men tried to tame a wild horse. The horse was wildly kicking its legs and tossing its head back and forth. None of the men could tame it. The king wanted to buy the horse but thought it was too wild. Alexander, 14 at the time, made a bet with his father than he could tame Bucephalus. Slowly, Alexander walked up to the horse and stroked him. Then, he mounted the horse and galloped around the field. Fourteen-year-old Alexander had tamed him!
