  1. Alexander Ovechkin Alexander Ovechkin By Akila Jayawardane • Alexander Ovechkin is one of the greatest players today. • Today, I will tell you all about Alexander Ovechkin, and is great accomplishments. • I will also talk about his early years.

  2. Childhood • Alexander Ovechkin was born on September, 25, 1985. • His father was a professional soccer player, and his mother was a basketball player. • The first sign of his future was, when he grabbed a hockey stick at a toy store, and he refused to let it go. • One of his older brothers died when he was only 10 years old.

  3. Early Playing Career • Ovechkin first started playing hockey in the Russian Superleague when he was only 16. • He played there three years scoring 36 goals. • In the 2004-2005 draft, he was drafted first overall by the Washington Capitals. • At the time he was compared to Mario Lemieux. • During the lockout season he played another year in Russia.

NHL • On January 13, 2010 he scored his first hat rick against the Anaheim Ducks. • That season he finished with 52 goals and 106 points.(One of the best rookie seasons). • On October 5, 2010 Ovechkin played in his first game in the NHL. • He scored 2 goals that game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

  5. NHL • The following year completed he completed his second year in the NHL with 46 goals and 92 points. • In the final year of his contract, he sighed a 13 year 124 million dollar deal. (About 9.5 a year) • This is still the richest NHL contract in history. • The following season he scored 65 goals. (First 60 goal scorer since 1995-1996 season.

  6. International Career When he was only 17 he was selected to play for the national team. • At the age of 16, he scored 2 hat ricks, and lead the Russian junior team to a gold medal. He was named the captain of the junior team at the age of 18. He finally won gold in the world championship in 2008.

  7. Awards He was awarded the Hart Memorial Trophy in 2008 and 009.( MVP) He was awarded Calder Memorial Trophy in 2006.( Rookie of the year) He won the Kharlamov Trophy 5 years in a row.
