Aim – To improve the health of the Greater Glasgow and Clyde population by Increasing physical activity levels by assisting participants to become more active and supporting them to gain the knowledge tools and confidence to lead a physically active life Behavioural physical activity intervention (12 month duration) Established 1997 > 8,500 new referrals per annum About the scheme
First Steps Key findings • Appropriate targeting of those furthest from regular exercise • More likely to complete the scheme • Benefits to BMI; HADS score; PAR and health state (but not superior to participants attending the unenhanced scheme) • Long term follow up was very positive Health warning • Data analysis based on 72 participants • Telephone follow up of 30 completers
Motivator Key findings • Appears to be targeted at the most challenging group • More likely to complete • Improvements to BMI, HADS, PAR and Health State • Favourable long term follow-up • Motivator experienced benefits Health warning • Date analysis of 149 participants • Telephone interviews with 30 participants
Central Administrator Key findings • Improved screening of referrals • More likely to attend 6 month appointment • Increased scheme capacity • Reduced burden on leisure centre reception staff • Flexible booking procedure and management
