    18. Audience Participation How many active recycling programs? What kind of programs do you have? How many have gotten a newsletter, e-mail or seen a poster regarding waste reduction or recycling in your office in the last few months? Do you know what your agency’s Waste Reduction Goal is For 2010? Survey the audience Any communications regarding your building or agency’s program in the last few months. (Say since January?) Based upon the response – note it and remind them about the Capitol C’s. Without regular communication YOU ARE NOT DOING THE JOB. What is your agency’s waste reduction goals? Survey and then use the next slide to help. Without a goal and vision of where you want to go – you are not going to get there. CBRE manages approximately 12,000 buildings totaling 1.4 billion sq ft through the US The initial roll-out is focused on the Property Management properties; targeting a two year introduction to all markets and properties. They have established the O&M recycling (operations and maintenance) focused on wastes produced through maintenance of building systems (Thermostats, Lamps, Ballasts. Batteries). Established a web-based system that provides managers with reference data, shipment tracking along with the roll-up of data in multiple hierarchies. C&D Recycling is being introduced through project management teams and currently is only tracked on a per project basis. 25. Pilot Building Set Pilot began with 6 office properties totaling 2 MM sq ft and 4000 occupants Pre-program audits were conducted and the surprise was the amount of plastic bottles 3 restaurants/delis were contained in the initial audits Surge in shredding component can be attributed to the delay in conversion of several tenants’ contracts over to the program. All tenants contract for their shredding outside of building services so they had existing contracts to cancel with other service providers. A HALF POUND A DAY OF FIBER PER PERSON!!!! Already cut 20% of our waste hauling costs from these properties and will be making further reductions in the services shortly Trying to finalize a partner for the aluminum and plastic. We want to use the same model and local haulers but sell the collected commodities to an end user to optimize the supply chainPilot began with 6 office properties totaling 2 MM sq ft and 4000 occupants Pre-program audits were conducted and the surprise was the amount of plastic bottles 3 restaurants/delis were contained in the initial audits Surge in shredding component can be attributed to the delay in conversion of several tenants’ contracts over to the program. Pounds of material ranged from.22 pounds per person up to the former average determined by EPA and North East Recycling Council (NERC) back in the early 1990’s of 2 plus pounds per person.
