  2. The Setup I organized my project according to what I presumed would work best. There were a few simple steps that had to be followed in order to be successful: 1. Get their attention from a distance before moving closer 2. Make sure there are no objects or people in your path of landing 3. Look excited and hurry towards them 4. Execute a realistic fall and stay down for a few seconds 5. Stand up and say “WHOA!” as if surprised ~The key is that you must maintain their attention before falling, because if they don’t see you fall, you can not fall again and make it appear as if it was an accident.~

Information to collect Observant’s *Age -can affect maturity level *Gender -May determine whether they laugh or ask for help *Relation to me -Their knowledge of me may influence their reaction Location -Location of where I fall Initial reaction -How they reaction when I fall Effects on conversation -If we pick up conversation where it left off or not ~All information will be analyzed and noted mentally until the conversation ends, then written down.~

  5. Hypothesis: I believe that when I trip and Fall in front of someone, they Will laugh at me and not help Me up

General Findings: Initial Reactions My observations fell into 3 general reactions categories: Laughter -People would point and laugh, calling me clumsy and too excited Concern -People would look scared, run over and help me up, and ask questions such as “Are you alright!?” Confusion -People would look on the ground to see if I tripped on an object, if my shoes were tied, or for any reason why I fell. They had a puzzled look on their face. They asked me questions like “What happened?!”

  7. General Findings: Observant’s Characteristics Age -I studied many of my friends around my age, and they definitely had more of a laugh than the older folks I studied. It seemed to me that with age comes compassion. Gender -Gender did not have a profound effect on things. I came to the assumption that if I was a girl tripping, people would be far more helpful in asking if I was okay and helping me up. Relation to me -The relationship status to me was the biggest factor in predicting an outcome. Friends or family of mine know my character, and therefore laughed at me when I fell. Strangers or people who were at work were more concerned about helping me out.

  8. General Findings: Location Location -Location had the same effect as relationship status. Where I tripped in public and nobody knew me, people were more concerned about me than laughing, especially in stores where employees saw it happen.

  9. General Findings: Effects on Conversation Effects on Conversation -There were a few effects that my tripping had on the conversation: *For those people whom were concerned, they immediately began asking questions about what happened and if I was alright. The conversation we were previously having was put on hold. *For those who laughed, usually when they finished laughing, which took a while, they jumped right back to where we had left off. *For those who were confused, either they just stared at me confused until I said something to get the conversation going, or asked questions about what happened and that I need to be more careful.

  10. Post-Experiment Analysis Hypothesis -I think I was pretty accurate with my hypothesis. After the experiment, I realize I should have seen that there would be a difference between people I know and people I don’t. It would be a little rude for people to just laugh as I fell if they didn’t know me. But my friends and family can laugh freely without disrespecting me. Changes to my Experiment -If I was to do this experiment again, I would not only fall, but then roll and get up like nothing happened. I think this would give allow everyone the chance to laugh, and give a more whole result, rather than split between whether they knew me or not. -Another change I would make would be that instead of me tripping on my shoelaces, I would set up a banana peel and slip on that. It would add a comedy factor that would most definitely get laughs every time.
