  1. Small Clawed Otter Alexis Orozco

  2. Small Clawed Otters • Habitat: Oriental small clawed otters live in east to south Asia, in mangrove swamps • What They Eat: Frogs, Crabs, Crayfish & Shellfish • Diseases that affect them: • I chose this organism because, I remember going to Monterey Bay Aquarium when I was little & was fascinated with otters, & using this assignment to find out more about them was useful.

  3. How Would Not Having Small Clawed Otters affect the environment? • If Small Clawed Otters were to become extinct the population in the things they eat (Frogs, Crabs, Crayfish & Shellfish)would rise, & it would become aggravating to farmers because small clawed otters help to keep pests like small crabs off farms.

  4. How Does Having this organism help the environment • Small Clawed Otters are pest controllers for farmers, they help control the population of smaller organisms, that farmers would consider annoying

  5. What is being done to protect Small Clawed Otters? What needs to be done to increase the population of this organism? • This breed of otters are being managed by SSP (Species Survival Program)

  6. How Small Clawed Otters Are Becoming Endangered? • This organism has become seriously threatened, but not endangered. This is do to destruction of their habitat, pollution & hunting. People are reclaiming there habitats & building things in its place. Asian hunters hunt small clawed otters for the pelts & take their organs as well because people believe they have medical value. Pollution is decreasing the population of several different types of fish these otters eat.
