Maryland • Maryland passed a statue that placed a tax on all banks not chartered by the State. • U.S. government set up the Second Bank of the United States. • Courts upheld the authority of the Federal Government • States did not have the power to tax a Federal Bank • This would help uphold the power of the Federal government. • http://www.oyez.org/cases/1792-1850/1819/1819_0
