Why should you consider approaching the corporate community? • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a priority of corporations, all have yearly reports detailing this aspect of their business. • Community Investment/Involvement is a key element to CSR. • Corporations are part of our communities, staffed by our family, friends and neighbours.

  9. Shift • Philanthropy • Give us money because we do good works • Creating Shared Value • Corporate success and social welfare are interdependent

  10. More Than Money! • Looking for ways to engage their employees • Offering other skills – marketing, equipment, expertise

  11. What Makes a Great Proposal? The corporation must build a business case to support your initiative, make it easy for them!

  12. What Makes a Great Proposal? • Alignment with corporate priorities, more than one if possible! Environment AND Education. • Concise, succinct, plain language, easy to understand - need I say more…. (3-4 pages max) • Associated with other initiatives the corporation is supporting – DO YOUR RESEARCH!

What Makes a Great Proposal? • Be clear with your sponsor recognition elements, clearly show the differences in recognition levels based on $$$$ invested. • Meeting a unique need not being met by anyone else, OR • Partnering/collaborating with others to seek solutions that cannot be found in isolation

  14. What Makes a Great Proposal? Consider starting small and work to prove your ability to deliver, before jumping in!

  15. Building Long-term Relationships Be open and transparent with your successes AND challenges. Event organizer worst nightmare. We have more demand than we can meet!

  16. Building Long-term Relationships • Report back regularly as decided upon at the outset • Set out a clear evaluation plan and deliver on it • Share stories, photos, media coverage and video as part of your reports
