Lot • Lot was a nephew of Abram Gen. 11:27 • God calls Abram Gen. 12:1-4 • Lot goes with him Heb. 11:9-10 (act of faith) • 2 Pet. 2:7-8 a righteous man • Lot was wealthy Gen. 13:6 • Abram let Lot choose which land he wanted • He chose the well-watered plain of Jordan v.12 • He pitched his tent toward Sodom v.12 • He was in Sodom and got captured 14:12 • Abram rescued him 14:13-17

Lot • God told Abraham He is going to judge Sodom; he interceded for the city 18:16-33 • Lot was at the gate 19:1 (a city leader) • He sought to protect the visitors 19:2-3 • He showed hospitality19:3 • He refused sinners’ request 19:4-8 (with compromise in v.8) • He became the object of Sodom’s wrath 19:9 • He tried to save his family 19:12-14 • Lot delayed escaping the imminent doom 19:16

Lot • Lot asked for mercy to spare Zoar as a safe place19:17-22 • His request was answered 19:23-29 • Lot lost all possessions 19:16 • Lot lost all associations 19:29 • Lot lost his wife 19:26 • Lot lost his self-control 19:30-38 • Lot lost his daughters morally 19:30-38 • Lot produced enemies of God’s people 19:37-38 What can we learn from his life?

Lessons From Lot • Having faith is not enough James 2:24-26 • Being good is not enough Rom. 3:10 • Make decisions (marriage, career, friends, etc.) based on spiritual value instead of physical appearance or profit Heb. 12:1 • Actions may not be sinful but still foolish • We tend to absorb our environment 1 Pet. 2:11-12 • Compromise with sin only makes it worse Eph. 5:8-11

Lessons From Lot • We can be wealthy and suddenly lose it all Luke 12:13-21 • Consider the spiritual effect of your actions on yourself and othersMatt. 18:6-9 • Avoid alcohol & other substances that destroy the mind and self control Eph. 5:18 • God will punish sin and save the righteous 2 Pet. 2:7-8 • Fear God and obey the gospel 2 Thess. 1:8-9 • “Remember Lot’s wife.” Do not delay! Luke 17:31-32
